Screwie Louie Tournament at Genuine Cigars Valencia

The 2025 Screwie Louie Tournament took place on November 4th at Genuine Cigars. Lorenzo organized the event with Genuine Cigars owner Jean Zamira, bringing together nine Screwie regulars. Two tables were set up, and everyone drew cards to determine their table placement — high cards went to one table, low cards to the other. Each table then drew for teams, and whoever became your teammate stayed your teammate throughout the tournament.

Teams were:

Louie and Mark, then replaced by Arturo
Steve and Tim
Lambo Mike and Mike B
Kirk and Lorenzo

Best two out of three games moved into the championship round.

Louie and Arturo scored back-to-back wins over Steve and Tim. Likewise, Mike and Mike notched consecutive victories over Kirk and Lorenzo.

The championship game was a single, winner-take-all showdown. Louie and Arturo started strong, while Mike and Mike were stuck in the gutter with negative points. M & M never saw daylight, falling as far as 700 points behind before clawing their way back to game seven, still trailing by 300.

With only 13 cards played, Arturo called time and went down with a club run from 6 through Queen with three jokers. But Louie noticed Arturo had a spade 8 in the middle — and Louie had picked up the first card of the game, which was an 8 of clubs! Arturo had to pick up his run, and everyone knew Louie couldn’t move the 8 to him.

On his next turn, Lambo Mike dropped a three-joker run, and Mike B finished it off — going out for the bbbuuuurrrrrnnnnn! Owner Jean presented the winners’ prize: a box of Davidoff. A great time was had by all the Screwies. Special thanks to Lorenzo and Jean for putting this tournament together.
